What is Time to RCA?

Time to RCA is the elapsed time from the closure of a Sev1 incident to the delivery of a signed, accepted root cause analysis. It measures the written deliverable, not the moment an engineer first suspected the cause, and it is the metric a contractual RCA obligation actually tests. Time to RCA is distinct from MTTI, which ends at identification, and from MTTR, which ends at restoration. Enterprise MSAs commonly commit to a written RCA within a few business days of a Sev1; internal targets are often unmeasured. Instrumenting Time to RCA per incident and severity against the committed window is the first step to meeting an RCA SLA.
